The screen you need is display > racing now
This screen is display only, and is available to anyone with access to the system.
It shows information about three races. Assuming you are correctly positioned, top race is the one just finished, next is the race on the water, and last is the race on the start.
Underneath each race is the information about previous winners, plus notes about the race and the crews. These notes will also log any changes since the programme was generated.
Watch out for the notes which tell you which competitors have birthdays on the day of the regatta!
Completed races will show the results - time and position. They will only display if they have been entered, and you may need to refresh the screen to be updated with the latest information.
Current and next event display the names of the competitors in the boat. This was the information provided by OARA when the entries were submitted. Check the notes for information about substitutions. This is the only place on the system where competitors names are available.
If you want to look ahead to prepare additional information about races and competitors, just select the appropriate race number.
To enter your own notes you will need to be signed on with an appropriate commentators username. You will then have access to:
Admin > Admin Section, select Crew Details or Event Facts
or
display > Crew Details or Event Facts
Whatever you enter will then be displayed when you reach that race on the Racing Now screen. Please do not delete any existing information!
In previous years the stop watches in the timing huts were started at the start of the race, and stopped at the finish, and hence recorded the elapsed race time.
This year, all the stop watches are being reset at the start of the day, and the times recorded are the elapsed time since the clocks were reset. Hence both the start and the end times need to be entered into the system before the race time can be calculated.
Finish times will be recorded on the race control sheet in the Finish Hut and passed to the Results input person in the Tent. They will enter the times on the computer. Assuming that the start time has already been entered, the race time will display immediately on the Display > Racing Now screen (assuming you refresh it). This is the earliest that you will have a result to announce.
If you can make the commentary from the screen, then you will always have access to the latest information available. However, if you prefer to work from a piece of paper, you will have to wait for the Results Input person to write down the elapsed times on the Race Control Sheet before passing the mover to you.
The people in the split timing huts (500, and 1000) do not have access to a computer, so the Results Input person will phone down to them to collect the split times on their stopwatches. They will then enter them into the computer, and once done the split times will be available when you next refresh your screen. The split times will not be written down for you.
